The Life We Honor

William Dean "Coach" Richters
July 2, 1951-December 19, 2019

Dean was born on July 2, 1951, in the city of Big Spring, Texas. In 1970, he graduated from Coahoma High School and went on to attend Sul Ross University, where he obtained both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees. On July 11, 1976, he married Kathleen Henderson in Coahoma.

After completing his education, Dean worked for a while as a teacher for the Castleberry Independent School District, and later transitioned to working for AK Construction, where he helped erect metal buildings. However, his passion for teaching and coaching never faded, and he eventually returned to Coahoma Independent School District, where he spent 22 years teaching and coaching before retiring in 2011.

Outside of work, Dean enjoyed spending his time outdoors, hunting and fishing being among his favorite pastimes. His love for outdoor sports was evident to those around him, and it brought him much joy and fulfillment.

Overall, Dean's life was one of hard work, dedication, and a love for teaching and the outdoors. His impact on those around him, especially his students and athletes, was immense, and his memory lives on in the hearts and minds of all those who knew him.

OUR MISSION

The Dean "Coach" Richters Memorial Scholarship Foundation is dedicated to providing young student-athletes with scholarships to access higher education in honor of Coach Richters' belief in the transformative power of sports and education. We aim to empower student-athletes with exceptional academic and athletic abilities, leadership, sportsmanship, and community service. We aim to invest in their education to help them succeed on and off the field.

Additionally, the Foundation provides financial assistance to students who have overcome adversity and difficult situations. We strive to support and inspire all young individuals with the drive and determination to succeed, regardless of their background or circumstances. Our mission is to create a more inclusive and supportive community that promotes equality and diversity in sports and academics, giving every student an equal opportunity to pursue their dreams.

We are committed to transparency, integrity, and accountability in all our operations. We work to establish strong partnerships with schools, universities, and sports organizations to identify and support deserving student-athletes. Our ultimate goal is to create a lasting legacy for Coach Richters by empowering future generations of students to reach their full potential and positively impact the world.

Our Foundation is committed to building a supportive community that fosters leadership, sportsmanship, and community service and promotes equality and diversity in sports and academics. In addition, we strive to inspire and motivate students with the drive and determination to succeed, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Through our partnerships with schools, universities, and sports organizations, we aim to identify and support deserving students and provide them with the necessary resources to succeed. We envision a future where the legacy of Coach Richters lives on through the achievements of the students we support, who will positively impact their communities and the world.
